La Isla Electronica are the Portland synth-punk quartet of Susana Sainz (vocals, synth), Ian Howe (guitar, synth), Amy Kay (bass), and AJ McClary (drums). Formed in 2024 between Spain and the Pacific Northwest, the band makes femme-fronted Spanish-language cold-wave synth-punk that splits the difference between Madrid's minimal-wave underground and the bright-edged urgency of American new wave. Their 2024 self-titled 7" on Distort Reality Records announced a band already operating in their own lane.

The lineage runs through the chrome chill of early-80s Spanish electronic underground (Aviador Dro, Décima Víctima, Esplendor Geométrico) and the danceable propulsion of The Go-Go's, Chin-Chin, and Missing Persons — but the register is the band's own. Sainz writes through the surreal beauty of feeling permanently between places: memories of Spain bleeding into the strange glow of an American dream that won't quite finish loading.

Their debut full-length, "3:17" (à La Carte Records, 2026), is the most realized articulation of that sensibility yet. Engineered and mixed by Evan Mersky at Red Lantern Studios in Portland and mastered by Sasha Stroud, nine songs over twenty-four minutes treat the in-between as the actual address — a migration record that refuses to sound like one.
