Welcome Strawberry Expands Their Sonic Universe with Desperate Flower
Oakland, CA - May 6th, 2025 – Oakland’s Welcome Strawberry is set to return with Desperate Flower, their sophomore album, released in collaboration with à La Carte Records and Cherub Dream Records. Known for their ability to blend shimmering dream-pop, homespun psychedelia, and an undercurrent of experimental noise, the band deepens their sonic palette here, sculpting a collection that feels both immediate and untethered from time.
The album’s lead single, “Memory Cube”, due out May 6th, pulses with a restless energy—its driving bassline and hypnotic percussion forming the backbone of a track that teeters between controlled chaos and lucid melody. Next, “Violets & Honey” shifts gears, capturing the wistful jangle of C86 pop with a tender, melancholic lilt. The title track, “Desperate Flower”, blossoms into a kaleidoscope of sound, channeling the wide-eyed psych-pop exuberance of Apples in Stereo and the raw emotional scope of Neutral Milk Hotel. -
At its core, Desperate Flower is an album of contrasts—delicate yet dense, intimate yet expansive. Welcome Strawberry’s influences remain deeply rooted in the storied lineage of indie’s past, from the collage-like psychedelia of Elephant 6 stalwarts (Olivia Tremor Control, Circulatory System) to the off-kilter charm of kiwi pop legends (The Bats, The Chills). Yet, rather than merely nodding to these traditions, the band reshapes them, layering hazy textures with a restless inventiveness that recalls Bay Area predecessors like The Aislers Set and Game Theory.
Since their debut, Welcome Strawberry has built a reputation for crafting sonic spaces that exist in the half-light—songs that feel like memories, shifting between clarity and distortion. Desperate Flower refines that vision, distilling their kaleidoscopic influences into a sound that is unmistakably their own.
With the first glimpse of Desperate Flower arriving soon via “Memory Cube,” the full release looms just over the horizon. -
