BLITZ, SOUTHERN DEATH CULT, HIGH VIS
France’s legacy in Oi and coldwave runs deep, from early pioneers like La Souris Déglinguée and Camera Silens to contemporary powerhouses such as Rixe and Syndrome 81. Out of this fertile lineage emerges Brest-based newcomer Justice Divine, a project from Jacky Cadiou (Syndrome 81, Prisonnier Du Temps, Grisaille) that dares to bridge these two traditions into something entirely its own.
On their seven-song self-titled debut, Justice Divine forges a bold hybrid of sound—anthemic Oi rhythms crash against brooding coldwave synths, while incensed hardcore vocals cut through layers of shadowy atmosphere. In an unexpected but haunting twist, ethereal Gregorian chants thread through the mix, heightening the record’s intensity and dark mystique.
The result is a debut that leans heavily into the darker edge of the genre, evoking echoes of “Second Empire Justice”-era Blitz, Sisters of Mercy, and Death Cult. Justice Divine is not only a fresh contribution to France’s rich punk and coldwave continuum—it’s a daring reimagining that pushes both traditions into uncharted, exhilarating territory.
