Madeline Goldstein’s Other World marks a refined evolution in her solo career, blending brooding darkwave, expansive new wave, and cinematic synth textures into a cohesive vision. Produced and engineered by Matia Simovich (SRSQ, RIKI, Body of Light), the EP reflects Goldstein’s meticulous craft, translating her extensive performance experience into a collection that balances theatricality with intimacy.
Opening with the pulsing intensity of “Seed of Doubt,” the EP establishes a taut, immersive atmosphere that mirrors the grit and dynamism of Los Angeles. Throughout the record, Goldstein’s alto-soprano soars over dense, layered arrangements, from the rhythmic precision of 808-driven tracks to the lush, atmospheric synthscapes that frame her voice. Each song is a study in tension and release, combining danceable grooves with haunting elegance.
The title track, “Other World,” epitomizes the EP’s ethos, weaving segmented drums, droning synths, and distant saxophone into a soundscape both ethereal and grounded. Goldstein channels the emotional edge of 80s theatrical ballads, exploring desire, self-doubt, and vulnerability, while maintaining the hypnotic pull of modern darkwave. Other World solidifies Goldstein as a defining voice in synth-based post-punk and new wave revival, blending sophistication, emotional resonance, and undeniable presence.
