Mirror of Venus brings together Joy Damert, Jose Espinoza, Heidi Weber, and Margot Rhodes—musicians bound by years of collaboration in San Francisco’s Mission scene and reunited in Los Angeles to form a new chapter in their shared vision. Drawing influence from UK post-punk innovators like The Durutti Column, Sad Lovers & Giants, and Wire, the band channels both urgency and atmosphere into a sound that feels timeless yet unmistakably their own.
Their debut single, “Never Say Forever,” unfurls across nearly six minutes of tense, spidery guitars and restless synths, coalescing into a haunted rhythm that lingers long after the song fades. Written by Rhodes during the first months of the pandemic, the track meditates on the fractures between identity and performance in the digital age, exploring what is lost when our lives are filtered through screens.
At once intimate and expansive, Black Skies introduces Mirror of Venus as a striking new presence in the contemporary post-punk landscape. With Espinoza’s experience in darkwave project Shock Doctrine adding further depth, the band leans into themes of isolation, reinvention, and dissonance—setting the stage for a body of work that’s as introspective as it is sonically arresting.
