Old Moon is the solo project of New Hampshire-based musician Tom Weir, who seamlessly blends post-punk, classic indie, and shoegaze into a sound that feels both timeless and fresh. Since beginning the project in the winter of 2019, Weir has released a steady stream of acclaimed work including the Past Lives EP, debut LP Altars, and the compilation tape Dreamer, Sleeper.

Where Altars descended into a swirling, shadowy world, Old Moon’s forthcoming full-length Cities of the Plain finds clarity in the daylight. Bright, chiming guitars illuminate Weir’s introspective vocals, offering a more expansive take on his songwriting while retaining the emotional weight that defines the project. Written and recorded by Weir with additional drum engineering from Todd Whitehead at Up North Studios, the album was mixed by Shaun Durkan (Soft Kill, Weekend) and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios.

Lead single “Soma” introduces this brighter vision: “It’s about trying to find a path forward even when the future is unclear, and about weeding out the things in my life that were dragging me down,” says Weir. The track showcases a cleaner, sharper Old Moon sound while maintaining the atmospheric depth of Altars, setting the stage for a record that charts both growth and resilience.
