On Modern Church, their striking sophomore full-length, NYC trio Public Circuit dismantle and reassemble post-punk with surgical precision. Gone is any pretense of retro revivalism—what remains is something sharper, darker, and entirely their own. This is a record that dances in the flicker of candlelight and fluorescent glare alike, channeling the austere pulse of EBM and the high-gloss ache of '80s sophistipop into a sound that’s equal parts ritual and revolution.

Following their acclaimed debut Lamb (2022), Modern Church sees Public Circuit doubling down on tension and texture. The serrated synths remain, but they now hum with a glacial grandeur. Each track pushes deeper into the uncanny, where body music becomes spiritual and punk becomes polished without losing its bite.

Lead singles “Samson” (July 1st), “To The Grave” (July 29th), and “No Faith” (September 2nd) offer a preview of the album’s breadth—from clenched, anthemic fervor to spectral drift. Think Fad Gadget and Front 242 refracted through the prism of emotional excess, with the theatricality of Talk Talk at their most solemn and the drive of Ministry at their most hypnotic.

With Modern Church, Public Circuit aren’t just building on their foundations—they’re setting fire to the altar and starting anew.
