LA-based producer and vocalist Sweet Love Under Tyranny arrives with her self-titled EP on à La Carte Records — four tracks and nineteen minutes of nocturnal synth-pop that pulls coldwave and Italo through new romantic melodrama. Co-produced with Matia Simovich (Inhalt) at Infinite Power Studios and mastered by Josh Bonati, the record sits across a range of reference points: the pop confidence of Stacey Q and early Madonna, the airtight vocal architecture of Yazoo, and the coldwave romance running through the artist's own history as a featured artist on Kontravoid's "Maskerade."
Her voice cuts from aching falsetto to guttural growl over synth lines placed with the precision of someone who has thought about where a chorus should sit in a mix and where it shouldn't. Post-punk.com recently described her music as "a nocturne of neon-kissed bliss, a siren's serenade whispered through the haze of LA's twilight pulse" — an accurate read of a project that treats beauty as a divine imperative.
