  • à La Carte Records Announces First-Ever Label Showcase at Non Plus Ultra: A Five-Year Celebration of Forward-Looking Sound

Since its inception in 2020, à La Carte Records has quietly—and sometimes thunderously—charted a distinct path through the modern underground. Straddling coasts between Los Angeles and Washington, DC, the label has become a trusted conduit for those chasing the more shadowed, glimmering edges of indie pop, post-punk, and synth-drenched experimentalism. On August 9th, à La Carte will celebrate its five-year anniversary with its first official label showcase, presented in collaboration with LA’s The Witching Hours, at the city’s storied DIY stronghold, Non Plus Ultra.

The all-evening event begins at 5 PM, featuring a stacked lineup that reads like a survey of the label’s eclectic but cohesive sonic DNA. From Madeline Goldstein’s cinematic synth-pop torch songs to the gritty neo-Britpop of Pleasure Pill, the night spans genres and geographies while remaining unmistakably à La Carte.

The bill also includes cult-favorite outfits like Sculpture Club, The True Faith, and Still Ruins, each navigating their own axes of jangle, coldwave, and noir-pop. Shoegaze is well-represented via the gauzy depth of Kai Tak, Clear Capsule, and the metallic haze of Anemic, while the likes of Mirror of Venus and Sunder conjure post-punk’s more spectral traditions.
  • Rounding out the night are Fuedal’s body-moving EBM charge, the kaleidoscopic psychedelia of Welcome Strawberry, and the slack-jawed charm of lo-fi rockers Pet TV.

Presented by The Witching Hours, the showcase channels the same DIY spirit and celestial energy that has long defined LA’s most vital underground scenes. Known for their past work on airwaves like KXLU and Dublab, and for nurturing the city’s dreamier, more expansive sounds, The Witching Hours' involvement makes this gathering all the more special.

Non Plus Ultra—reborn after the shutdown of its former location—remains one of LA’s most resilient underground spaces. A haven for artists operating outside the margins of corporate cool, it’s a fitting setting for a label whose roster feels both timeless and deliberately out of step with trend cycles.

Five years in, à La Carte isn’t just a label; it’s a movement of like-minded musicians pushing sonic boundaries with maximal sincerity and minimal compromise. The August 9th showcase promises a night of blistering nostalgia, future-facing sound, and the kind of communion you only find under the cracked ceilings of DIY sanctuaries.
